In Costa de Almeria you can bring together the sun drenched beaches of Southern Spain with a chilled out atmosphere that is occasionally absent from the other 'costas'.

The shoreline runs out on both sides of Almeria city, with long shingle and sand beaches that are gently stroked by the balmy water of the Mediterranean Sea. If you prefer to work on your sun tan away from the busy areas, the beaches of Mojacar and Roquetas de Mar will be exactly what you are after to take advantage of the gorgeous weather. There is more than enough and not too many people. Even the waters sports tend to be deemphasized - the soft breezes are idyllic for windsurfing on the Costa de Almeria.

A little way from the Costa de Almeria beaches, the landscape may seem recognizable - it has been used often as a setting for Wild West films. It's worth visiting Mini Hollywood to see a few of the film sets that have been erected in the dramatic, desert-like landscape.

Further along the coast of Costa de Almeria you'll find the salt beds of Cabo de Gata, home to a big family of flamingos and natural parklands. Just one place of interest in Costa de Almeria.

Both Costa de Almeria resorts are tucked between the sea and mountains, the Sierra De Gador Mountains for Roquetas, and the Sierra Cabrera Mountains for Mojacar. The resorts offer a good quality selection of, bars, restaurants and shops. For more modernized, purpose-built amenities, head for Roquetas de Mar, which has a dense centre that runs into a long esplanade - the ideal location for your evening walk prior to dinner. Mojacar began life as a mountain summit community with small streets and white washed houses, even though now you'll see it has extended to the shoreline.

The capital of Costa de Almeria is Almeria, and is over looked by an old Moorish castle. It is also the best place to do your shopping if you want to buy some more distinctive souvenirs to take home.
