The compact resort known as Playa de los Pocillos grew up at the eastern end of Puerto del Carmen, about 5km from Arrecife Airport. This area has a quieter more relaxing atmosphere than central Puerto del Carmen. Playa de los Pocillos has a long, sandy beach bordered by a promenade with a small selection of bars and restaurants. For serious partying you could always take a short taxi ride into the resort centre. Playa de los Pocillos has a sprinkling of shops, supermarkets and bazaars but a short trip to Puerto del Canmen's main stretch will take you to hundreds of shops selling anything from souvenirs to designer labels. Take the local bus from the beach road to the islands capital, Arrecife, where the locals tend to shop in the back lanes or the pedestrianised main street.
